Clients and area residents often ask me about Weekly Rentals in Huntington Beach.  What I tell people is that they are “not allowed”.

Below is text from the City of Huntington Beach Planning Department:

Short-Term/Vacation Rentals for a term of less than thirty (30) consecutive days in the residential zone are prohibited by City Code.

There are exceptions to the code that allow for Bed and Breakfast establishments in the residential zones. If you would like more information regarding these exceptions you can contact the City of Huntington Beach Planning & Building Department at (714) 536-5271.

If you suspect a single family or multi-family residential location is being rented as a Short-Term/Vacation Rental please contact the Code Enforcement Division at (714) 536-5271 or email at

Our neighbors to the south, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, do allow weekly rentals.  You can find them at
